Granite Is Still The Top Selling Stone Counter, Why?

The sky’s the limit when it comes to choosing countertop materials. Granite remains the best selling option, edging out the competition for good reason. Few things can beat granite’s durability and affordable price point.

Granite is available in a wide variety of beautiful natural shades. It can lend itself well to both indoor and outdoor use. Some homeowners like to use the same granite for the kitchen, bathroom, patio, and bar area to create a unified look.

This stone is also highly durable. You can set hot pans on it directly without risking damage. It is impact resistant and holds up well to the wear and tear of daily kitchen use. When properly sealed, the stone is nonporous and will not absorb stains.

Granite is low maintenance. As long as it’s re-sealed once a year, or as the manufacturer instructs, this stone doesn’t need much care. You can perform a quick test to see if it needs to be re-sealed. Just splash a few drops of water onto the counter. If they’re quickly absorbed (some suggest in under four minutes) then it’s time to re-seal the surface.

Another advantage is that granite is easy to clean. Most of the time you can just wipe your counter down with a lightly dampened cloth. For dried on spills, you may need to soak with warm water first. If you use cleaning solution, reach for one that’s gentle and non-acidic and non-abrasive.
